The j suN’s review: The official start of good TV season

September 22nd, 2009 The j suN No comments

So… Now i have a good reason to put something on here again. Two shows premiered for the season the other night, and me being the no TV owning fanboy that i am, i just got around to watching downloads right now-like. Read more…

That X-Men Wolverine Movie: The j sun Review

May 2nd, 2009 The j suN No comments

So, I grew up as a kinda geeky kid. My sport of choice (like most of my fellow geeks) was soccer. I don’t know why it attracted so many of us geeks. I know its a demanding sport and 300 trillion fans worldwide can’t be wrong about it’s macho prowess, but i’m American. Unfortunately this causes me to look down on European sports as kinda girly for no good reason. Sorry European sports. I guess its a cultural thing. Now i do realize that i am getting pretty off topic here, but bear with me. I swear my stream of conscientiousness is going somewhere… maybe. SO, back to me being a soccer kid. Being a group of kids that were geeky and too smart for their own good, a rumor quickly got passed around that every time we did that hitting the ball with your head thing, we lost a few brain cells. Geeks are very concerned about becoming stupid, so most of us made it a priority to learn the chest bumping thing instead. The group of true soccer jocks on the team ignored it, but i’m willing to bet i’m smarter than them today because i was cautious about headbutting a ball coming at me at mach 2. Hopefully i’m smarter than them. It doesn’t seem to have helped my ability to stay on topic, because this is a Wolverine Review. Read more…

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – The j suN review

June 1st, 2008 The j suN No comments

and you thought yoda was a Little badass...

OK… So to prove that not everything i am a not a big initial fan of is put directly on my shit list here is my review of the new Narnia.

My background with the books is slim to none, but i did end up seeing most of the adaptations for PBStv/BBCtv howevermany years ago that was. I remember it being kinda cool, but being thrown off by the humans in animal suits. Not a huge fan of humans in animal suits. Don’t have enough furry tendancy to really like em. So… when the new Narnia movie series came out i was a little excited. I thought kinda cool would be upgraded to really cool. Unfortunately that time i was thrown of by some shaky acting (kids. what could i expect right?) and a less than fluid story line. I could still sorta count myself a fan cause it had just about every fantasy creature i could think of, but the only really neat thing they did with em was the massive battle at the end. Now that my history with it is sorta established, here is my positive review of the new one.. Read more…

Post apocoliptic. I’ll take some of that.

May 5th, 2008 The j suN 1 comment

OK. So when Gamin wrote his bit about loving the post apocalypse in all of its glory and lack thereof i had to think a bit. I kinda like the genre, but i’m not sure i’m too passionate about it. I couldn’t write about any movies that i particualy loved. There are some neat ones to be sure… but how devoted am i to any of them? At the time i had to say little to none. Naturally though, i was forgetting something, and it took me till now to realize it. I was forgetting anime.

Unit 00: The j suN

How could i forget anime and what prompted me to remember it(you almost certainly are asking yourself)? The dvd of the new Evangelion movie was just released and promptly subbed by a rabid Evangelion fanboy fanbase. Read more…

Doctor Who: Series 2 Season 4

Tardis

WARNING: THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. OR IT MAY NOT. OK, SO IT DOESN’T

Ok. If you have read my bio you know im a sucker for Scifi stuff, but there are a few bits of Scifi i am sorta devoted to. One of them is the Doctor Who series. I was one of the kids that spent many a preteen night watching the cheezy-fun adventures of a time traveler and whatever random person he decided to take along for the ride. I can’t remember much about the original series anymore but the new one has picked up all of the good stuff i remember from olden days… but that isn’t exactly what i meant to write about. A new season just started up… Read more…

What happens in Vegas2 should have stayed in Vegas.

March 31st, 2008 The j suN 2 comments

OK… so that’s a bit harsh, but i am a little confused on this one. It seems like the only reason to get this one is the new spiffy maps and the new spiffy guns. Granted, the maps are quite spiffy, and who doesn’t like guns? Couldn’t that have been a addon for the original game though? ‘Course that addon wouldn’t have allowed them to upgrade to the new superspiffy Unreal Engine… but the game barely uses it. They built levels that are even shinier and more beautifully lit than the first one, but they didn’t seem to pay attention to what the consoles could actually handle. I am playing it on the Xbox360, and it bogs down in every room that has excess glass in it, not to mention every cutscene and every helicopter ride (Perhaps the PS3 version is nicer). Thankfully they cut most of the pretty out of the multiplayer, so it runs clean, but if the multiplayer was and is the focus of both Vegas and Vegas2, then what was the point in upgrading to an engine that you aren’t even going to use well in the bulk of the gameplay? So, ive bitched and moaned enough for now. Lets get to the good stuff. Read more…

Cade Antilles standing by!

March 26th, 2008 Cade Antilles No comments

Hey everybody, Cade Antilles here! The j suN got things rolling with a little bit about himself, so I thought I’d do the unimaginative thing of doing the exact same thing.

First thing to say about myself is that I am first and foremost a Star Wars aficionado. I read virtually all of the novels and comics, play most of the video games, play the RPGs, delve into the sourcebooks and repositories of in-universe knowledge, collector of memorabilia, wear a few costumes, and watch any bit of film that I can. This does not mean I know facts about the production of the films, but instead, I am proficient in the in-universe materials. So, that said, many of my reviews on this site will concern Star Wars related pieces.

Another aspect of my life is that I’m a gamer. I love video games, computer games, role-playing games, board games, card games, and table-top strategy games. This is a topic, though, that I do not consider myself an expert. While I do greatly enjoy these various forms of entertainment, I’m what others would describe as stubborn when it comes to trying new things. Because of this, my experience is somewhat limited. I primarily stick to FPS and RTS video and computer games. I only play d20 system RPGs. And my experience with the other genres are just as limited. So, while I will have my perspectives on these genres, know that I do not have an interest in broadening my horizons too much. When it comes to games, I’ve got my PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, and PC, so those’ll be where my reviews will be coming from.

Film is another part of my life. I grew up in a family owned video store, with free access to whatever film I wanted to watch (within my parents’ permission). This led to my love affair with movies. Mostly of the Sci-Fi and Action genres, but not exclusively. Some of my friends here at Professional Procrastinators have higher expectations of films than I do, but I know a bad movie or good movie when I see them, and I’ll do my best to let y’all know.

As for a little bit more about myself, I’m a college student working on a degree in History. My main areas of interest are Military History, European History, Religious History and Japanese History. I’m also a proficient handy-man/jack-of-all-trades. I’m no expert at repairs and construction, but I can get the job done safely and cleanly.

Well, I guess that’s all for now. Catch me next week for my first review. It will be on Star Wars – Legacy of the Force: Revelation by Karen Traviss.
