Wanted: The j suN review

OK… So it’s been a while since the release of Wanted. Been even longer since the previews came out of course, but that’s how far back i’m gonna reach with this review. Seems to me like the previews are often what makes the movie. I know that sounds weird, but think about it a bit. If you havn’t seen something yet, and didn’t know about it til ya saw a commercial for it, you are investing a lot in your opinion of that commercial. Where am i going with this? I’m not sure i completely know myself, but i suppose it’s to say, whatever your opinion of the commercials of this movie are, it’s probably worth checking out… at least if you like action movies.

Here is why… (more…)

Mar’s Top 5…CGI Movies

Ok this top 5 was requested by Kuna. She said that if I didn’t do it she would hurt me…sooo I decided to do it because I don’t want to lose a thumb.

I really enjoy CG movies. Even if the majority of these films are geared for children I still like them. Maybe it’s because a CG movie takes so much time and effort to make the creators of these films have no choice but to make sure they do the best they can. Whatever the reason here are my favorites… (more…)

Mar’s Corner: Mar’s sister on Iron Man

SOOO… When the previews for Iron Man started coming out, this past spring, I started to talk smack about how I was going to boycott the Iron Man movie. Why? Because in the Marvel comics he turned against his super hero brethren, and is partially responsible (in my mind anyway) for Captain America’s death. But as the movie got closer to release my stance on the matter weakened, and I went and saw it and was blown away by how good it was and blah blah blah… My sister on the other hand (she also reads the comics because I lend them to her) was not so easily swayed. She actually stuck to her guns and to this day refuses to forgive Iron Man for what he did in the comics and refuses to see the movie. This is a copy of her blog from Myspace on just that very subject. I think it’s pretty funny.

A Gamin Review: WALL-E

Love.  The online dictionary embedded in my iGoogle homepage defines it as “a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.”  It goes on to mention several other more specific meanings, but this seems like the most universal understanding.  Love.  Why mention love in my review of a Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth class (WALL-E) robot, because it’s a powerful theme in WALL-E. The latest animated marvel from a little company you might have heard of, Pixar.  These wizards, over the past decade, have been able to capture the hearts and minds (myself included) with stories that on the surface seem simplistic, or rather “kiddy” in nature, but they are able to bring big smiles, robust laughs, and perhaps even a few tears too.  It’s a gift few possess, but thankfully everyone can enjoy. The Incredible Hulk: The j suN review

Ok… I have officially taken too long to post this review, so my apologies to all of my adoring fans out there. So i have to say i liked the movie.

I wasn’t really looking forward to it up til about a week before it came out. That was about the time i saw a clip of one of the fights unedited on a webcomic i usually keep track of. I saw what looked to be one of the best fights between an actual person and a fictional cg thing, that i may have ever seen. What made it more impressive was that it was broad daylight. A little sunlight usually makes even the best cg artist’s falter a bit (in my view), but it was seamless and outright impressive. I was more than a little jazzed about seeing it at that point.

Coming out of the theater after the movie, i felt a bit dissapointed, but nowhere near unhappy. (more…)

A Gamin Second Opinion Review: Get Smart

Let me explain my second opinion reviews just in case people are thinking a couple of things.  First off, no I wont be doing just second opinion reviews for Cade.  Second, I’ll only do them when there’s a difference of opinion regarding a movie we’ve all seen(unless there are already two Procrastinators doing said review then I’ll stay quiet, unless I REALLY want to share my thoughts).  Third, I like bitching about movies cause I’m bitter….lol…nah, really I’m usually harder on movies out of the rest of the Procrastinators so I end up writing the negative review.  I like to think I give enough justification(I imagine the j sun will write some sarcastic comment) for my reasons, so on that note here goes nothing. Got Smart

Get Smart

A Review by Cade Antilles

Multiple steel doors, a phone booth, a shoe phone, the cone of silence, missing it by that much and (don’t forget) the element of . . . SURPRISE! Icons of a nearly forgotten franchise. I loved the original series from the ’60s (which I watched in syndication), and follow-up film (Get Smart, Again!) in 1989, which starred the late Don Adams, and was created from the comical genius that is Mel Brooks. I LOATHED the 1995 TV series revival. Fortunately, that piece of defecated nonsense only lasted 7 episodes.

Now, with Steve Carell picking up the reigns, could this slapstick, James Bond spoof live up to its namesake? The answer is . . . yes!

HULK SMASH!!!!!!

I’m going to keep this real short because my boy Thejsun is also doing a review and no one needs two reviews pretty much saying the same thing. They finally did it right. Marvels reboot of the Hulk is awesome. As far as pure enjoyment, it is on par with Ironman, Batman Begins, and the first 2 X-Men. The story may not be as complex and the characters may be a little cliche, but it’s the Hulk. You don’t need complex. We have all seen what happens when they try and make a complex Hulk…horrible things. All we need is a basic story that makes sense, for the most part, and lots and lots of Hulk smashing. And I am happy to say that that is what Marvel has given us. The story may not be as clever as their recent Iron Man movie, but The Incredible Hulk has WAY more action. I can’t even begin to describe to you how big my smile was in the theater when Hulk and the Abomination finally throw down in the end. It was comic book nerd nirvana! It literally made me want to jump out of my seat and cheer. Hulk Smash my friends…Hulk SMASH!

The Death of Everything Real… in a way.

One of my personal hero’s died last night. Stan Winston was the creator of nearly every special effect that i admired growing up. Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Jurassic Park, and Ironman were all aided by his, and his team’s handiwork. With the advent of CG, his skills were featured less and less, and i still think that is a shame. I don’t know if i can truely call him one of the pioneers of puppetry, but he did bring it up to a level where i considered it a work of art every time. The studio he created lives on and will produce the effects for the new series of Terminator movies, and i hope it lives on for a very long time.

Stan Winston passed at his home in Los Angeles last night after an ongoing battle with cancer, at age 62.

If you havn’t already,… Moment of silence people……..
