A Gamin Quickie: Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway

Ask some of the fellow Procrastinators and they’ll tell you I’m not as big on the whole World War 2 genre, era, etc as the rest of them are.  I certainly don’t dislike it, or find it boring for that matter, it just never hit me like it did for so many others.  With that nugget of information you might be thinking why I should be reviewing a game set during World War 2.  Couple reasons, I like FPS’es and playing Call of Duty 2 when I bought my 360 at launch was some good times.  Does Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway  invoke some of those same memories, or does it feel more like high school history homework?  Click the read more Private, or drop and give me 20!!! A Gamin Quickie: Silent Hill Homecoming

Silent Hill, a franchise held in high regards by many a survival horror fan.  Silent Hill 2 is often looked upon as the Empire Strikes Back of the series.  Setting the standard that many argue still hasn’t been bested by any of the sequels.  My experience with the series is spotty at best.  I played a little bit of both Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2.  I enjoyed my time in Silent Hill, but preferred the “comfort” of Raccoon City.  Silent Hill’spsychological approach to the genre definitely trumps Resident Evil’s “shoot zombie in head NOW!” mentality, BUT sometimes you just want to kick ass and take some zombie names.  That being said the real question for Silent Hill fans is: can Silent Hill Homecoming knock the reigning champ (Silent Hill 2) off it’s throne, or will the Queen shout: “OFF WITH IT’S HEAD!!!?”  Click the Read More to find out…IF YOU DARE!!!!! A Gamin Quickie: Lego Batman

Hello Ladies and Gents of all shapes and sizes to a brand new feature from yours truly.  I found myself contemplating the trials and tribulations one Fall day regarding how long winded my reviews general end up being.  It hit me that not everyone has the time, or the patience (both perhaps) to read some film school grads opinion on whatever has occupied his mind this week.  So for those, myself included, who just want the nitty-griddy on something without having to read words pulled from an online thesaurus just to sound all professional like, I present a Quickie.  As you’ve no doubtingly noticed the title of said Quickie(I’ll repeat it for those who’ve already forgotten)…Jesus I thought these were suppose to be short.  It’s already a freakin paragraph and he hasn’t even talked about the game yet.  Perhaps now would be a good time to bounce.  I would but I’m stuck in his head.  Pray for me…. Lego Batman takes the honor(?) of being my first Quickie.  Click the read more to feel it for yourself…yes I realize the irony(shut up Alanis)of taking a term commonly used for s*e*x and applying it to a family friendly video game… (more…)

Mar’s Corner: “Old” Age

I am by no means old. I am only 28 and still have plenty of life left in me, but I have hit that point where I realized I AM getting older. I have a bunch of nephews and nieces who I am pretty sure are all smarter than me. Friends are getting married and buying houses. And the kicker… shows I used to watch when I was younger are now on Nick At Nite! I don’t want to get older because getting older means change and I have never been a big fan of change, but a couple of things this past weekend have shown me that getting older does not have to be a bad thing. Mar’s Top 5… Board Games

It’s been awhile but I am back with another marvelous Top 5 List. I was sitting around the other day thinking about all the great board games I used to play. I would like to play some of these games more often than I do but unfortunately none of my friends or family seem all that interested in playing these types of games anymore. Which kind of bums me out since a lot of these games can be started with out much prep time and they are a nice change of pace from what we usually do. So at any rate, I realized I should  rank my favorite board games and put them in some sort of list so others will know how much I like them. Why? I don’t know but here it is anyway. So have fun. (more…)

A Gamin Review: Too Human

Expectations on a game that’s been in development since the days of the Playstation 1 are bound to be high.  Games of this nature tend to never live up to the hype unfortunately built around them while the game itself is being made.  Having said this, it still doesn’t change the fact that Too Human just isn’t that great of a game, and really could of used more polish time.  I had hopes after seeing gameplay footage that Too Human would be a cross between Devil May Cry and Diablo.  On the surface that sounds like a fantastic game to me.  The exciting action/combo performances of DMC, and the loot gathering/mob slaughtering of Diablo make for a perfect pairing…just not in this package. Mar’s Corner: Zombie Love

I have recently fallen in love with zombies… hmm, ok maybe not recently but my love for them has reached new heights. I have always been a fan of zombie movies (good and bad) and I have always really enjoyed video games with zombies or zombie ‘like’ creatures in them. But I (with the help of my friend, Gamin) have recently uncovered two zombie gems that may have been overlooked by the majority of the populace. The Peter Jackson film “Dead Alive” aka “Braindead” and the video game “Siren: Blood Curse”.  (more…)

A Gamin Shout Out: Dawn of War 2

Sup ladies and gentlemen.  i just found out some exciting news regarding Dawn of War 2, which if you don’t know is the sequel to one of(if not THE) greatest RTS franchises in the history of RTS games.  Let me give a little insight into the game that is Dawn of War.  Dawn of War, for those unfamiliar, is based on the table top game of Warhammer 40K.  My buddies and I use to play this all the time back in our youth.  We’d spend hours painting, playing, cheering, crying, and generally having a good time kicking the snot out of each other.  I remember towards the tale end of our days playing we’d talk about how awesome it would be if there was a Warhammer 40K version of Warcraft 2(that was the latest one out at the time).  We’d go all geeky about what kinds of troops, weapons, buildings, etc we could field into battle.  My imagination soared as I played the game in my head.  Alas for quite some time that was the only place I’d be able to “play” it.  Then jump almost 12 years later, and Relic finally granted my teenage dream, Dawn of War the RTS. A Gamin Review: Soul Calibur 4

For those that don’t know, I’m not much of a serious fighting game player.  I’ve been a fan of the Dead or Alive series since back in the day, but beyond that I really don’t touch them unless hanging with friends at various get togethers.  I don’t have the interest or the patience to spend hours and hours learning how to pull off the complicated moves that each fighter from whatever fighting series can do.  Most of my friends tell me they’re not that complicated to learn, but like I said, I have no interest in learning.  It’s just not my thing; I want results and I want them now!  So it was to my surprise how much I thoroughly enjoyed Soul Calibur 4. A Gamin Review: Wii Fit Round 1

Hey everybody.  I recently picked up the second money printing product from Nintendo at Target with a little help from a certain fellow Procrastinator(thanks again kuna :) ).  I titled this review “round 1″ because I’m going to break it down into 3 parts.  Sure I could of titled it ”Part 1″, but to me Round 1 had a nice ring to it so I went with it.  If the thought of it not being titled ”Part 1″ drives you so crazy that you can’t continuing reading then I understand, and can most absurdly assume you’re crazy and should seek professional help ASAP.  For those of you still here, let’s get this started.
