Well it looks like Marvel is yet again attempting to reach out to those of the female persuasion that may and may not yet be comic book readers. It is rather commonly known that the comic world is predominantly male. This trend has been shifting for quite some time now, but the balance is far from perfect. And because of this, it seem Marvel feels the need to push out a series of issues called, GIRL COMICS!
Is the world too bight and cheery? Is all this “good” getting your down? Well you need a little more “evil” in your life. Then for starters you should check out the Evil Diva comic. Read more…
So, it’s has been undoubtedly heard by you, but as it is pertinent to what we’re into, here at Procrastinators, I’d like to take a minute and discuss Disney’s acquisition of Marvel. If you hadn’t heard about it . . . well, it’s true. Walt Disney, the company that’s brought us Mickey Mouse, The Lion King, The Incredibles, and Disneyland has purchased the comic book mega company, Marvel. If you’d like to see the news story, check out this article.
So, what do I have to say about this? Well, I have to say I have my reservations. Disney is well known for its family-friendly, “G” or “PG” rated material. Marvel . . . not entirely. I mean, Punisher, anyone? And, that’s just one of the 5,000 characters that Disney is acquiring the rights to. Does this mean that we’re soon to see a softer side of Wolverine? As far as I know, Disney has not yet made any formal statements regarding the future of the Marvel characters. It was a smart buy on Disney’s part (and Marvel shareholders would be stupid to refuse the purchase), but only as long as the Marvel IPs are allowed to continue along their current path. If Disney tries to make Marvel characters too nice and cuddly, it could be the beginning of a serious downward spiral. Of course, the flip-side is that, with the powerhouse that is Disney, Marvel won’t have to worry about profitability in this tough economy.
And on that note, I leave you with this comic from those talented guys at Penny Arcade.
Ok. Wow! It has been awhile. But I guess now is as good a time as any to post something new. So this week (like I do this on a regular basis! Oh man!) I am posting my top 5 comic book characters of all time. Now unfortunately this list may change in the future do to the fact that sometimes a mediocre character can turn into a really good one if the comic has a good writer, and since writers are constantly changing on a comic, characters tend to change position a lot on my list. So as of now here is my list. Read more…
I will jump from the oldie goldie to a new favorite, Evil Inc. I found out about this comic when I stumbled across the Webcomics Weekly show on iTunes. The show features four of the leading folk in online comics, Brad Wigwam err Guiger (go back through the archives to get the joke), Dave Kellett, Kris Straub, and Scott Kurtz; they talk shop and social aspects of doing webcomcics. If you want they’re collected thoughts check out How to Make Webcomics book. But I digress this is supposed to be about Evil Inc. Read more…
There comes a point in every woman’s life where you lose hope in the male species and think to yourself “Maybe I should try lesbianism.” Oh, is that just me? Either way, I have put some thought in to the whole lesbian thing. Who makes me think twice about why I find men attractive? I compiled a list of what women I would totally go gay for. This list is not ranked whatsoever.
Right. So I have a set of online comic bookmarks that’s um … around 30 currently. And I figured it was high time I started telling others about them. I’ll start with the one that first drew me into the warm embrace of webcomics, MegaTokyo.
OK ok ok. I have been meaning to do this one for a while but it was tough because comics change all the time. One day you will be into a certain comic and then all of the sudden they change writers or artists and the comic goes right down the crap shoot. So what I have done is basically picked out my favorite comcs during a certain point in there story. For instance rather than just saying X-Men I have selected a certain point in the X-Men story line as my favorite. So now that that is explained lets get to it… Read more…
