Burn After Reading: The j suN Review

DID I REALLY JUST SEE THAT HAPPEN!

So… Seems like that is the big thing in all of the Coen Brother’s movies.  Well i guess that’s not all of it… Usually there is a ton of humor that tries to sneak in just under the radar, then that OH MY G… moment where everything changes.  Burn After Reading is no exception.  You do need to go in with certain expectations though.  To see a Coen Bros. film you need to know if they have your sense of humor, then you need to know if you are open to seeing the subject cast in a that humorous light.  That said, i guess i should get to the subject. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (TTGL): The j suN Review

Ok… So i’m not planning on doing this often, especially for things that are now kinda old, but i felt like i had to do a review on this anime.  It’s not often that something can have an emotional impact on me, but this series made me want to cheer with joy or cry bitter tears so many times, that it seemed impossible to go without advertising it a bit.

The series is called Gurren Lagann to most because, well, the name is pretty long and it takes literally till the end of the series to understand what the first two words are for (If you aren’t a Japanese prodigy). Even the Gurren part of it takes a few episodes to understand, so initially it should probably be called just Lagann, but, whatever… Just let me explain it’s coolness a bit then worry bout the name. Hellboy II: The j suN Review

OK… Gotta say, or warn, that i am a huge fan of the Hellboy. I liked the first one a bunch. The look and feel of it was staggering to me. Awesome lighting and cinematography hooked me something fierce. The ending of it was a bit lame to me, but despite that i have watched it again and again finding new joy in each viewing. (Partly because of some of my favorite commentary tracks on a DVD EVer.) I was always a fan of the art and style of the comics as well. Its one of the few series i have made an effort to collect. Not a perfect effort, but so goes it, …and i digress heavily.

So that leads us to my views on the current HB. (more…)

Wanted: The j suN review

OK… So it’s been a while since the release of Wanted. Been even longer since the previews came out of course, but that’s how far back i’m gonna reach with this review. Seems to me like the previews are often what makes the movie. I know that sounds weird, but think about it a bit. If you havn’t seen something yet, and didn’t know about it til ya saw a commercial for it, you are investing a lot in your opinion of that commercial. Where am i going with this? I’m not sure i completely know myself, but i suppose it’s to say, whatever your opinion of the commercials of this movie are, it’s probably worth checking out… at least if you like action movies.

Here is why… (more…)

The Incredible Hulk: The j suN review

Ok… I have officially taken too long to post this review, so my apologies to all of my adoring fans out there. So i have to say i liked the movie.

I wasn’t really looking forward to it up til about a week before it came out. That was about the time i saw a clip of one of the fights unedited on a webcomic i usually keep track of. I saw what looked to be one of the best fights between an actual person and a fictional cg thing, that i may have ever seen. What made it more impressive was that it was broad daylight. A little sunlight usually makes even the best cg artist’s falter a bit (in my view), but it was seamless and outright impressive. I was more than a little jazzed about seeing it at that point.

Coming out of the theater after the movie, i felt a bit dissapointed, but nowhere near unhappy. (more…)

The Death of Everything Real… in a way.

One of my personal hero’s died last night. Stan Winston was the creator of nearly every special effect that i admired growing up. Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Jurassic Park, and Ironman were all aided by his, and his team’s handiwork. With the advent of CG, his skills were featured less and less, and i still think that is a shame. I don’t know if i can truely call him one of the pioneers of puppetry, but he did bring it up to a level where i considered it a work of art every time. The studio he created lives on and will produce the effects for the new series of Terminator movies, and i hope it lives on for a very long time.

Stan Winston passed at his home in Los Angeles last night after an ongoing battle with cancer, at age 62.

If you havn’t already,… Moment of silence people……..

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - The j suN review

and you thought yoda was a Little badass...

OK… So to prove that not everything i am a not a big initial fan of is put directly on my shit list here is my review of the new Narnia.

My background with the books is slim to none, but i did end up seeing most of the adaptations for PBStv/BBCtv howevermany years ago that was. I remember it being kinda cool, but being thrown off by the humans in animal suits. Not a huge fan of humans in animal suits. Don’t have enough furry tendancy to really like em. So… when the new Narnia movie series came out i was a little excited. I thought kinda cool would be upgraded to really cool. Unfortunately that time i was thrown of by some shaky acting (kids. what could i expect right?) and a less than fluid story line. I could still sorta count myself a fan cause it had just about every fantasy creature i could think of, but the only really neat thing they did with em was the massive battle at the end. Now that my history with it is sorta established, here is my positive review of the new one.. (more…)

Speed Racer: The j suN review

Shooting Star

OK… so first i neeed to say that i was never a big fan of the original Speed racer show. I know it seems like i shouldn’t be the one to review it because i have no love for it going in, but that perspective will be reserved for 6of6 in another review. Trust me when i say that the fact that i wasn’t a fan didn’t color my review of this. (i know its hard, but try)

I HATED THIS MOVIE… and here is why.. (more…)

Post apocoliptic. I’ll take some of that.

OK. So when Gamin wrote his bit about loving the post apocalypse in all of its glory and lack thereof i had to think a bit. I kinda like the genre, but i’m not sure i’m too passionate about it. I couldn’t write about any movies that i particualy loved. There are some neat ones to be sure… but how devoted am i to any of them? At the time i had to say little to none. Naturally though, i was forgetting something, and it took me till now to realize it. I was forgetting anime.

Unit 00: The j suN

How could i forget anime and what prompted me to remember it(you almost certainly are asking yourself)? The dvd of the new Evangelion movie was just released and promptly subbed by a rabid Evangelion fanboy fanbase. (more…)

Time is new… again.

Doctor Who: Series 2 Season 4

Tardis

WARNING: THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. OR IT MAY NOT. OK, SO IT DOESN’T

Ok. If you have read my bio you know im a sucker for Scifi stuff, but there are a few bits of Scifi i am sorta devoted to. One of them is the Doctor Who series. I was one of the kids that spent many a preteen night watching the cheezy-fun adventures of a time traveler and whatever random person he decided to take along for the ride. I can’t remember much about the original series anymore but the new one has picked up all of the good stuff i remember from olden days… but that isn’t exactly what i meant to write about. A new season just started up… (more…)
