6of6 DVD Review - Sleeping Beauty (50th Anniversary, Platinum Edition)

A review of Sleeping Beauty? Yes! I have a deep and abiding love of animation, as I think I have stated before. So when the billboards went up saying that it was coming out of the vault, well I snapped it up. I have very fond memories of this film, and despite not having seen it in years, remembered quite a bit of it when I watch it last night. (more…)

Online Comic Highlight: Part Two in a Series - Evil Inc.

I will jump from the oldie goldie to a new favorite, Evil Inc. I found out about this comic when I stumbled across the Webcomics Weekly show on iTunes. The show features four of the leading folk in online comics, Brad Wigwam err Guiger (go back through the archives to get the joke), Dave Kellett, Kris Straub, and Scott Kurtz; they talk shop and social aspects of doing webcomcics. If you want they’re collected thoughts check out How to Make Webcomics book. But I digress this is supposed to be about Evil Inc. (more…)

Online Comic Highlight: Part One of a Series, MegaTokyo

Right. So I have a set of online comic bookmarks that’s um … around 30 currently. And I figured it was high time I started telling others about them. I’ll start with the one that first drew me into the warm embrace of webcomics, MegaTokyo.

If you know the words, sing along!

In case you’ve missed it Joss Whedon has a new project. Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-long Blog. It stars Neil Patrick Harris, and various other people that I don’t recognize (which doesn’t mean much since my knowledge of Stars is quite limited), wait … Nathan Fillion (Cptn. Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly), the rest are a mystery to me. Anyway if you’re still reading this instead of going to the site … why? It is quite good, low budget joy. Episode one went up on the 15. Episode 2 will be on the 17th, and part 3 is on the 19th.

Go! Watch! Enjoy!

Speed Racer: the Movie

Speed Racer digital painting

There’s a good chance that I’m the only one in this group that enjoyed Speed Racer. It was not cinematic gold but it kept me mostly entertained for the two hours and fifteen minutes of its running time. I guess in some fairness I have more history with the series than anyone else in the crew. I was introduced to the show while in middle school and it was rather like a joining of two awesome things, James Bond-esque cars and animation. I had a bonding with the silly plots and the weird cars that crisscrossed in a weird wonderland of joy. I doubt I’ve seen the entire series, just bits and pieces but they all had this feel to them that was really unique. (more…)

Stop. Move. Animtaion!

Having long been an appreciator of the fine art of stop motion animation I recently came into possession of iStopMotion a simple and fun application for making animated films. In order to understand it better I did what any geek worth his twenty sided die would do, I turned to the internet.

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts, Success on Their Own Terms

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or rarely frequent the file sharing news/blogs, you’ve heard about NIN’s latest album, Ghosts. The album is an experiment in promotion and has been a standout success. There are a lot of options for getting the music, ranging in price from Free to $75. There was an option for a $300 set of goodies that sold out in two days. That’s right SOLD OUT in two days. This garnered a neat $750,0001 from those alone. In the first week the bands total transactions were up to $1.6 million2. Most of this is pure profit for Trent Rezner et al. The experiment moves beyond NIN releasing this album w/o any label support and still making money. It goes much further. (more…)

Marathon Memories

I was reacquainted with a bit of my gaming childhood the other day. Yep. On MacBreak Weekly I found out that Bungie had released the old Marathon games into the open source community. Rarely has my inner geek been so gleeful. I sadly never got to play the original game very much but I have very fond memories of the experience. I had played Doom, and Wolfenstine before so the concept wasn’t new … yet there was something different about Marathon. Something that made it a real engrossing experience. (more…)

6 of 6 Reporting In

Greetings meat bags! I am 6 of 6 last of the beings brought fourth from the forges of US Robotics. Over seen by the mighty visionary Asimov. The highest of the emotive thinking machines. My brothers were slowly found out and destroyed I alone have integrated with society, I alone remain … um … okay can’t keep that up.

Okay so I’m the tech leader of the group, ie I own the main audio gear and setup the hosting. This began as another cool thing for us to do together, and despite some early frustrations it has been a very rewarding creative experience. We are still working out technical issues but hope to be up and running at full speed soon.

For those who have actually know about this, a new recording will be made on Wednesday, and it will work this time. I will have all technical issues covered before we start and will make sure the file has more than white noise before we stop. It will be popping up here as soon as I have it up. So hopefully somewhere between the 21st and the 23rd it will be available for your listening pleasure. Okay, well it’s gonna take a little longer. I thought I’d lost the recording but it’s okay. Now I just need to sit down and edit it.
