Mar’s Corner: Zombie Love

I have recently fallen in love with zombies… hmm, ok maybe not recently but my love for them has reached new heights. I have always been a fan of zombie movies (good and bad) and I have always really enjoyed video games with zombies or zombie ‘like’ creatures in them. But I (with the help of my friend, Gamin) have recently uncovered two zombie gems that may have been overlooked by the majority of the populace. The Peter Jackson film “Dead Alive” aka “Braindead” and the video game “Siren: Blood Curse”.  (more…)

Online Comic Highlight: Part Two in a Series - Evil Inc.

I will jump from the oldie goldie to a new favorite, Evil Inc. I found out about this comic when I stumbled across the Webcomics Weekly show on iTunes. The show features four of the leading folk in online comics, Brad Wigwam err Guiger (go back through the archives to get the joke), Dave Kellett, Kris Straub, and Scott Kurtz; they talk shop and social aspects of doing webcomcics. If you want they’re collected thoughts check out How to Make Webcomics book. But I digress this is supposed to be about Evil Inc. (more…)

A Gamin Shout Out: Dawn of War 2

Sup ladies and gentlemen.  i just found out some exciting news regarding Dawn of War 2, which if you don’t know is the sequel to one of(if not THE) greatest RTS franchises in the history of RTS games.  Let me give a little insight into the game that is Dawn of War.  Dawn of War, for those unfamiliar, is based on the table top game of Warhammer 40K.  My buddies and I use to play this all the time back in our youth.  We’d spend hours painting, playing, cheering, crying, and generally having a good time kicking the snot out of each other.  I remember towards the tale end of our days playing we’d talk about how awesome it would be if there was a Warhammer 40K version of Warcraft 2(that was the latest one out at the time).  We’d go all geeky about what kinds of troops, weapons, buildings, etc we could field into battle.  My imagination soared as I played the game in my head.  Alas for quite some time that was the only place I’d be able to “play” it.  Then jump almost 12 years later, and Relic finally granted my teenage dream, Dawn of War the RTS. Women Gilmer Would Go Gay For

There comes a point in every woman’s life where you lose hope in the male species and think to yourself “Maybe I should try lesbianism.” Oh, is that just me? Either way, I have put some thought in to the whole lesbian thing. Who makes me think twice about why I find men attractive? I compiled a list of what women I would totally go gay for. This list is not ranked whatsoever.

Mar’s Top 5…Sports Films

I have to be honest. I am not a huge sports person (other than boxing of course). Sure if one of my hometown teams is doing well I will check out a game or two (GO RAIDERS!). Or if I have money riding on a game…or two (going to Vegas and putting twenty bucks down to possibly win a thousand makes sports really interesting). But other than that I really don’t watch or keep up with sports. It’s just not my thing. So why is it that I love movies about sports? There are a ton of great sports films and I love a lot of them. For a really long time I couldn’t figure it out. Until I realized sports films are like sports concentrate. All the thrills with out all that boring in between stuff like commercials or time outs or commentators. Films have to be exciting and compelling otherwise whats the point. So all that stuff I find so boring is eliminated. HA HA! Sports the way it was meant to be watched…edited! So here is a list of my Top 5 sports films… (more…)

A Gamin Review: Soul Calibur 4

For those that don’t know, I’m not much of a serious fighting game player.  I’ve been a fan of the Dead or Alive series since back in the day, but beyond that I really don’t touch them unless hanging with friends at various get togethers.  I don’t have the interest or the patience to spend hours and hours learning how to pull off the complicated moves that each fighter from whatever fighting series can do.  Most of my friends tell me they’re not that complicated to learn, but like I said, I have no interest in learning.  It’s just not my thing; I want results and I want them now!  So it was to my surprise how much I thoroughly enjoyed Soul Calibur 4. Star Wars: Clone Wars

A Review by Cade Antilles

I shouldn’t have to sit here and explain to y’all about how much I love Star Wars. If you’ve been a reader of this site, you’ll know that this is mostly what I’m about. So, how can a review by someone as biased as me be worth reading? Right? Well, I’m sure another one of my fellow Procrastinators will have something to say, but I’m honor-bound to say something. So, firstly, I thought it was very cool, but it does have its flaws.

Silver’s Take on Journey to the Center of the Earth

Here’s the gist: Take Rick O’Connell - the main character from the Mummy movies - and plop him in as the main character, add a silly factor a notch above the (original 2) Mummy movies, combine some “Hey, even if I accept your fantasy physics, I’m pretty sure there’s something you forgot,” and add a pinch or two of wonderment reminiscent of the original Jurassic Park movie.

Online Comic Highlight: Part One of a Series, MegaTokyo

Right. So I have a set of online comic bookmarks that’s um … around 30 currently. And I figured it was high time I started telling others about them. I’ll start with the one that first drew me into the warm embrace of webcomics, MegaTokyo.

A Gamin Review: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

“RARRR I’m sorta kinda a Mummy….Rarrr?”

This should come as no surprise to ANYONE that I thought this was a gigantic steaming pile of silly crap.  It’s better then The Mummy Returns, but just about anything, save having your wisdom teeth pulled and stuff along those lines, is better then that “movie”.  My advice if you’re forced into seeing this, or actually want to see it is to follow these simple steps.  Step 1: leave your brain as far away as you can(I’m talking like really really really REALLY far away) Step 2: drink LARGE amounts of alcohol before and/or during the movie.  If you are driving then I advise skipping this step(I feel sorry for you cause the alcohol was going to numb your pain).  Step 3: Play Mystery Science Theater 3000.  If you’re watching this in the theater then you’ll have to play inside your head so as not to disrupt anyone else’s enjoyment(that word was REALLY hard to write) of the movie.  Step 4: close your eyes and go to sleep and let the corny dialogue lull you off to dream land.  You don’t have to follow each step, they’re more like helpful suggestions for a better movie going experience.
