Mar’s Top 5…Action Movies
It’s that time again for another awesome TOP 5 list. Can you feel the excitement?! This week was a tough one. A lot of pain and suffering deciding which ones to put in the top 5, but here it is ,for better or worse, my top 5 action movies of all time. These are the action movies I can’t get enough of.
5. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. This was a tough one to place because it isn’t strictly an action movie. It falls under a lot of different genres otherwise it would be much higher on the list, but despite that this movie has two of the greatest battle sequences ever put on film. You haven’t seen a sea battle until you see this movie. It puts the Pirates of the Caribbean movies to shame. This movie impressed me so much I actually started to read the 20 volume book series it was based on. I have so much more to say, but I know this movie will find it’s way onto more of my lists.
4. Predator. This is by far my favorite Arnold movie. It has crazy over the top action. Crazy over the top dialogue. A crazy rasta alien with dreads and a shoulder cannon, and by far, hands down THE best action movie phrase ever spoken. Arnold throws his knife at a guy impaling him to a wall and says (say it with me) “Stick Around!”. Classic! They don’t write stuff like that anymore.
3. The Bourne Identity. Technically I think the other two Bourne films had more action, but for me this one was the most enjoyable to watch. It had a great story, and the fight scene between Matt Damon and the blond, spiky haired assasin is still one of my favorite hand to hand combat sequences ever. AND who knew Matt Damon could be an action star. To quote Paul Rudd from The 40 Year Old Virgin “ You know, I always thought that Matt Damon was like a Streisand, but I think he’s rockin’ the shit in this one!”.
2. Enter The Dragon. Two words…BRUCE LEE!… Need I say more.
1. Aliens. How do I even begin to describe the awesomeness that is Aliens. It has gun play, explosions, blood, gore, cheesy 80’s action movie dialogue that some how magically doesn’t seem cheesy when you hear it. This movie seems to balance all of it’s elements just right. And the cherry on top of this action movie buffet… some of the most horrific bad guys ever to be put on screen, the aliens. They’re sleek. They’re black and slimy. They have a weird little second mouth, that shoots out of their main mouth, which is powerful enough to put a hole in your head, and the best thing…acid for blood. Even when they’re dead or dieing they can still hurt you. How cool is that ? Just to give you an idea of how good of an action film this is let me tell you a little story. I once had the opportunity in my high school English class to show a clip of this film for a class assignment. The entire class got to pick a scene from any film we wanted and we had to write a paper on it analyzing the scene shot for shot. Then during class we all had to get up in front of everyone, show our scene and talk a little bit about it. When I got up and announced the film I choose was Aliens every single guy in the class sat straight up at full attention. All of them had a huge smile on their face and they all gave each other a knowing look. I was actually the last person to do the oral report so after I finished giving my schpeel and showed my clip there were still 10 minutes left in class so I asked my teacher if I could just play more of the movie until class ended. Every guy in class turned there heads and gave her their best “PLEASE, CAN WE!” looks. Three guys actually shouted it out. Since it was Friday and we only had a week left in school she gave in. It didn’t matter if you were a jock, a nerd, a band geek, or even the valedictorian. Every guy in that room was united in that moment. And for that this movie will always be my favorite action film.
So there you have it. Read, discuss, criticize. You know you want to.

I just realized!.. Aliens might be the key to world peace. Nothing unights people like the fear of a deadly insect.
Maybee killer bees would work too…
