A Gamin Review: One Piece Unlimited Adventure

First off, if you have no idea what One Piece is then you probably don’t need to read any further.  Seriously, I won’t be offended if you stopped right now, and did something else.  Go ahead.  I’m sure you have some chores that need doing?  That hedge won’t trim itself you know.  Oh, hey you’re still here!  All right then.  Let’s talk One Piece!  One Piece Unlimited Adventure for the Wii is a mixed blessing.  While I applaud the game for doing an excellent job of capturing the feel of the show; the new English cast is quite good.  The game ultimately suffers from being a Wii only exclusive. Speed Racer: The j suN review

Shooting Star

OK… so first i neeed to say that i was never a big fan of the original Speed racer show. I know it seems like i shouldn’t be the one to review it because i have no love for it going in, but that perspective will be reserved for 6of6 in another review. Trust me when i say that the fact that i wasn’t a fan didn’t color my review of this. (i know its hard, but try)

I HATED THIS MOVIE… and here is why.. (more…)

The Bellic Chronicles (episode 1)

Finally, the rolling Banshee came to a sudden, sliding stop against the sound wall. Looking around, he could barely believe that, once again, he was not only alive, but relatively unharmed. Through the ringing in his ears, Niko Bellic could just barely hear the sirens. The police were still on his tail.

Crawling from the wreckage, Niko silently cursed the Mr. Faustin for sending him on yet another chore. Can’t this Russian thug take care of his own damn business? He quickly scanned the area and noticed he was near the highway. Perfect, I should be able to hitch a ride here. So, brazenly, he hopped the short wall and ran out onto the road. A minivan refused to stop and sped by, followed by a pair of taxis, then a sedan. The cops were getting closer and Niko was going nowhere fast.

A Gamin Review: Iron Man

Too many times solid well crafted comics have gone a stray when transferred from page to screen. Why do filmmakers feel they can get away with cheesy acting and over the top action just because it’s a comic book movie? They make the mistake of not balancing fun with smart, and they don’t get into the psyche of the character they’re trying to bring to life. In my opinion this is why most comic book movies bomb, and why movies like Batman Begins and now Iron Man soar. If you can get the right mix then you’ll have yourself a successful comic book movie. The makers of Iron Man got the right mix. (more…)

Return to Liberty City

Grand Theft Auto IV

A Review by Cade Antilles

Okay, here it is, the inevitable review for one of the most anticipated video game titles of 2008. Except, this game is so voluminous and grandiose that one week of play time just isn’t enough time to encompass its magnificence. This game, of course, is Grand Theft Auto IV!

In this latest installment to one of the most popular and controversial game franchises, Rockstar Games returns to the game’s roots by going back to Liberty City and setting it in modern day. This time, instead of playing the silent, nameless anti-hero of GTAIII, you portray Serbian immigrant Niko Bellic (who bears a striking resemblance to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) who gets off the boat to find that his cousin has been lying to him about how amazing the United States is. Playing a named anti-hero isn’t new for the series, though, as players have already portrayed Italian gangster Tommy Vercetti (voiced by Ray Liotta) in GTA: Vice City, and as African-American gang member Carl Johnson in GTA: San Andreas.

A Gamin Review: Street Kings

“Street Kings….Insert rap song here/tough guy thug talk…Street Kings.” This was what I humed after watching a TV spot for this movie. A tough no nonsense cop looking to bring justice back to the streets(my inner narrator). This movie had disaster written all over it. The fact that I’d never even heard of it till three days prior to it’s opening was not a very good sign either. Top it off, Keanu Reeves(which a lot of people think can’t act to save his life) appeared to be the main star. So I did what any good MST3K inspired youth would do. I went anyway just to get a good laugh, but to my surprise I was actual rewarded with a pretty decent flick. (more…)

Post apocoliptic. I’ll take some of that.

OK. So when Gamin wrote his bit about loving the post apocalypse in all of its glory and lack thereof i had to think a bit. I kinda like the genre, but i’m not sure i’m too passionate about it. I couldn’t write about any movies that i particualy loved. There are some neat ones to be sure… but how devoted am i to any of them? At the time i had to say little to none. Naturally though, i was forgetting something, and it took me till now to realize it. I was forgetting anime.

Unit 00: The j suN

How could i forget anime and what prompted me to remember it(you almost certainly are asking yourself)? The dvd of the new Evangelion movie was just released and promptly subbed by a rabid Evangelion fanboy fanbase. (more…)
